Our Favorite Ways to Sit Less and Move More

Sitting less requires no special skills or equipment. You have everything you need right now to "get moving".  There are lots of ways to be more active with something for everybody.

Here are some of our favorites:

  • Move your laptop to a kitchen counter and do your web browsing and email there.
  • Take your dog for frequent walks. That's good for both of you!
  • Walk with a friend, neighbor, spouse, or co-worker. Set regular times (if possible) to meet and walk. The accountability promotes more walking and it's a great way to catch-up and reconnect.
  • Get a pedometer or an activity tracker and challenge yourself to move more!
  • Explore a park or museum near you.
  • Volunteer to be the office "go-to" person to walk and hand deliver documents and other important materials to nearby offices and departments.
  • Put on some music and dance!
  • Pace around listening to books on tape.
  • Create your own "track" using your driveway, yard, or another space and walk it often!
  • Rekindle an "active" hobby. Bowling? Ping Pong? Swimming? Biking?
  • Got a favorite show? Walk around during the commercials.
  • Walk while talking on the phone.
  • Stand up while you Skype!
  • Pace around your house while using your tablet computer.
  • Stream your favorite shows to your tablet and walk slowly on a treadmill. Or read e-books on your tablet while walking slowly on a treadmill.
  • De-clutter your basement, closet, or spare bedroom. You'll feel great after it's done!
