About Us
Quitting the Sitting is a grassroots movement movement. We are completely self-funded by the website owner and have no financial interest in getting people to sit less (we aren't selling anything). We are an independent voice promoting sitting less, moving more, and having more birthdays. (Read more about how we got started here).
Quitting the Sitting's goal is to inspire people to live a more active life by sharing the stories (here and here) of previously sedentary people who have ditched the chair. Their motivation may vary (whether it's health, stress reduction, setting a good example for their kids, desire to maintain their independence, or something else) but the outcome is ALWAYS the same. Active people feel better, have less pain, more energy, greater self-confidence, and most importantly, they tell us that they are happier than they were when they lived their life mostly in a chair. If all this sounds pretty good to you, then Join us! |
How We Promote Sitting Less and Moving More:
1. Though our Life in Motion series, we share the stories of those who have chosen an active lifestyle. New stories are added frequently, so check back often.
2. Each May and October, we offer Sit Less Boot Camp to community groups, nonprofits, small businesses and other organizations who want to help their members break the sitting habit. This 2 or 3 week challenge helps participants find and implement workable ways they can sit less and more more in their daily lives. Since 2015, more than 800 people in 22 countries have participated in Sit Less Boot Camp.
3. We are active on both Facebook and Twitter. New posts are added several times a week. No spam, just regular updates, helpful tips, and motivational quotes to inspire greater movement. Through social media, we also collaborate with and support the efforts of other organizations that are similarly focused on helping people sit less and move more.
