About Us
Since 2015, Quitting the Sitting has been a grassroots movement for movement. We receive no government funding, no philanthropic support, no donations, and we aren't selling anything. We have no financial interest in getting people to sit less. We are an independent voice promoting moving more and having more birthdays. (Read how we got started here or more about Denise).
Quitting the Sitting's goal is to inspire people to live a more active life by sharing the stories (here and here) of previously sedentary people who have stopped sitting so much. Their motivation may vary, but the outcome is ALWAYS the same. Active people feel better, have less pain, more energy, greater self-confidence, and most importantly, they tell us that they are happier than they were when they lived their life mostly in a chair. If all this sounds pretty good to you, then Join us! |
How We Promote Sitting Less and Moving More:
1. We are active on both Facebook and Twitter. New posts are added several times a week. No spam, just regular updates, helpful tips, and motivational quotes to inspire greater movement. Through social media, we collaborate with and support the efforts of other organizations that are similarly focused on helping people sit less and move more.
2. We are creating a shareable library of images perfect for blogs, websites, and social media that gently nudge people to sit less and move more. New images are added frequently, so check back often!
3. We offer Sit Less Boot Camp™ every May and October to community groups, nonprofits, small businesses, and other organizations who want to help their members break the sitting habit. This 2 or 3 week program helps participants find workable ways they can move more in their daily lives. Since 2015, more than 800 people in 22 countries have participated in Sit Less Boot Camp.
