How We Started Quitting the Sitting
Sometimes inspiration comes at a barbecue.
Several years ago, I was chatting with a Dartmouth College obesity researcher about our shared interest in health and fitness. I asked her what's the one thing she wished more people understood about their health and without hesitation she replied, "I wish people knew how bad sitting is". It was an eye-opening comment for me, as I had never considered sitting a health risk before.
Changing habits is hard, particularly when the habit feels pretty good. So I did what most people would have done. I sat on the idea for several years. But in the Fall of 2014, as my friends and I were discussing our New Year's Resolutions for 2015 on the health & fitness social network My Fitness Pal, I decided to make sitting less my top health goal for the new year. And happily, so did a lot of my friends. A bunch of mostly middle-aged women (and Moms) throughout the United States, Great Britain, and Canada are now sitting less and moving their way to better health and longer, happier lives. And we want you to join us!
Funny thing about middle-aged women. We're not exactly the demographic group most associated with movement. We tend to be a pretty sedentary bunch. And that's really the point. If a bunch of middle-aged Moms can sit less and move more, we think anyone can. You can too.
You can start right now. We'll show you how. You don't need to train for a marathon or sweat profusely at the gym. In fact, you don't even need to leave your house.
But only YOU can decide to live the healthier and happier life you deserve. You have to decide to change course.
Come join us in the Movement Movement! You'll be glad you did!
